Reporting to the Tribal Administrator, the Social Devlopment Worker / Family Care Worker administers both the Child Welfare Program and the Social Development Program for the Hesquiaht Nation. In the delivery of their duties, the SDW/FCW plays an important role in supporting the well-being of both individuals and families.

 

JOB DUTIES:

 

  • Maintain and update client records and files in a confidential and secure manner
  • Intake and assess applications & referrals for Social Assistance & Child Welfare Court
  • Attend court appearances with Hesquiaht clients as requested
  • Process and issue Social Assistance payments, monitor and report expenditures to NTC
  • Coordinate all Social Assistance programs, such as WOP, GFA, Homemakers, and Continuing Care
  • Establish and maintain a good working relationship with other First Nation human services workers, NTC staff, and outside agencies
  • Refer clients to appropriate agencies and services as required, such as EI, WCB, SHN, A&D, and the Child Welfare Authority (to protect children)
  • Encourage and facilitate enrolling clients in training or educational programs that enhance employability
  • Assist in planning and developing employment programs and services in the community
  • Participate in workshops, training, and seminars that enhance skills relevant to the position
Qualifications 
  • Acceptable criminal record check
  • Prior training related to Social Development or Child Protection would be an asset.
