  • Build and develop relationships with the ownership and management of clients.

  • Act as a major resource to Small Business/Assurance Partner who look for the Tax Leader to review on-going planning and compliances issues for clients.

  • Be on top of current tax legislative changes and be proactive to come forward and initiate proactive solutions for clients.

  • Be able to draft up and implement corporate reorganizations for privately held enterprises, including the ability to brainstorm concepts, draft ideas and draft step memos for lawyers to review.

  • Be able to draft up and implement family trusts.

  • Oversee the Canadian corporate and personal tax filing; support and provide guidance to clients in a wide variety of industry sectors.

  • Have a comfort level advising on GST, HST, and general sales tax related issues for clients within the firm.

  • Recruit, train and develop the next generation of tax leaders within the firm; build the tax department.

  • Provide ongoing support, mentorship and training for the professional development of staff within the firm.

  • Ability to instill confidence in clients; meet with them and advise them on issues independently.

  • Effectively market and develop new clients through referrals and relationship building while providing the highest level of service and support to current clients.

  • Maintain the highest standards with respect to current legislation and on-going changes within the tax profession.

  • Liaise and negotiate with CRA regarding tax issues for clients.

Qualifications 
  • Chartered Professional Accountant

  • 7-10+ years of progressive public accounting firm experience specifically focused in tax

  • Must be-hands on and willing to get your hands dirty and be actively involved in the client files

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience at the Senior Manager level

  • Completion of In-depth level tax course

  • In-depth reorganization course considered an asset

  • Well rounded experience with respect to tax compliance, complex tax planning, and providing value-added advice to clients in a wide range of business situations

  • Must have strong tax research skills

  • Client focused and committed to being there to support colleagues and staff during busy season (January to July)

  • Familiarity with US Tax is an asset

  • Motivated and up for the challenge of developing and growing the tax practice of a well-respected professional services firm
