On Wednesday, February 29th there will be a FREE Job Fair in Vancouver for skilled job-seekers looking for work in Northern BC. There will be more than 20 companies in attendance who are looking for skilled workers for Northern BC operations.

We have a winner for the "New Year, New Look" contest!

Throughout January people put their name in to win a free hair cut at "Capelli Etc Hair Design."  The draw was held January 31, 2012.

Drilling company recruits workers year-round

Peak Drilling operates with offices in Courtenay, British Columbia and Wasilla, Alaska. They specialize in Contract Diamond drilling to the mineral exploration industry throughout North America.

They are always on the lookout for hard working employees, and contacted the Alberni Valley Employment Centre for help recruiting workers from this area. Peak Drilling hires throughout the year but their most active season is from April – October.

The starting rate of pay is $18/hr and overtime plus a footage bonus if they are on the drill.  Overtime is paid on anything that is worked over 8 hrs per day and they minimum work day when in the field is a 12 hour shift.

Anyone with First Nations Status whose band is part of the “J Treaty” is also eligible to work for operations in the US.

They are planning a helper course at the end of February as well as one around the middle of April.

Applicants need to be fit, have their first aid (basic with CPR) and mechanical aptitude or experience is highly desirable.
