The Secondary and Post-Secondary Education Administrator will be working with HFN citizens to support, facilitate and achieve a successful secondary and post-secondary education outcome, which includes high school, Adult Basic Education, Employment and Skills Training, Vocational and Trades, College Certificates and Diplomas, and University degrees.  You will also be supporting the Education, Trades and Employment Coordinator in designing, implementing and sustaining an education and training program to target youth in grades 8-12 into exploring educational and professional opportunities.

Job Duties:

  • Supports the Education, Trades and Employment Coordinator to develop and maintain education initiatives to manage the ongoing growth and development Huu-ay-aht education and cultural values throughout all segments of the population.
  • Works with the Education, Trades and Employment Coordinator to develop and implement strategies to remove barriers to education for HFN youth and citizens.
  • Coordinates student intake activities and facilitates applications for program funding.
  • Administers the secondary and post-secondary programs.
  • Collects statistics for reporting, budgeting, and planning purposes.
  • Identifies HFN Youth (Gr 8 – 12) and works in partnership with School District 70 (Alberni) to encourage youth to pursue opportunities.
  • Provides career counseling for students as needed.
  • Facilitates tutoring for students as required.
  • Facilitates student work experience programs.
Qualifications 

Operational Requirements:

  • Valid class 5 driver’s license.
  • Must travel to Anacla Government Office 1 to 2 days per week.
  • Some travel, including overnight and or weekends.
  • Willingness and ability to work overtime, including evenings and weekends.
  • Successful background checks, including employment verification, reference checks, and education/credential verification.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability and experience in upholding the HFN organizational Values:  Professionalism, Respect, Health, Effective Communication, Trust, Support.
  • University certificate in education or related field preferred.
  • Experience working in a First Nations environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated and successful experience planning, organizing, and communicating activities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to promote a performance-focused environment in alignment with the HFN’s values, culture and business goals.
