Parameters: One year contract Sept 1st, 2016 until Aug 31st, 2017, 16 hours per week for 45 weeks of the contract year. While an office space is available 2 days a week, the incumbent will be expected to provide own laptop, phone etc. and be responsible for own insurance, health benefits, Federal contributions and WorkSafe premiums.

This contract is the sole responsibility of the incumbent and must not be sub-contracted, shared, or in any way make liable the individual members of the AVCSI.

 

About Us: Alberni Valley Stakeholders Initiative to End Homeless Committee is a sub-committee of the Alberni Valley Social Planning Council. The group was formed in 2007 in order to assess the gaps in housing in the valley and bring togehter stakeholders to prioritize housing projects. The AVCSI spent the year of 2015 involved in a consultation to re-write our 2009 Homelessness Prevention Plan. Our new plan Still At Home in The Alberni Valley is a call to action to address the critical shortage of affordable rental housing in the valley.

 

Overview: This contract is to assist the Committee in the implementation of the recommendations coming out of Still At Home in The Alberni Valley.

 

Deliverables:

  1. Coordinate the implementation of the recommendations of the report Still At Home in The Alberni Valley.
  2. Engage local community and funding partners to actively work together to prevent homelessness.
  3. Ensure participation and representation of Aboriginal organizations in the planning and implementation of the new homelessness plan.
  4. Expand AVCSI to include representation from a wide spectrum of the community including businesses, financial institutions, contractors, developers, etc.
  5. Plan and execute a viable fundraising, grant seeking and writing initiative to further the work of the committee. This includes exploration of partnerships outlined in the federal homelessness partnering and best practice documents.
  6. Deliver formal presentations to all levels of government, funders, associations and media on behalf of the committee.
  7. Work with the committee on other aspects of the recommendations of the report as necessary.
Qualifications 
  • University degree with any combination of study concentration in project management, business, social services, community development with a focus on planning and social issues.
  • Verifiable direct three years of recent work in community development with a focus on plannin and social issues.
  • Extensive knowledge of government structures and granting processess at ALL levels of government and the corresponding reporting process.
  • Excellent verifiable reputation of working with local and provincial governments.
  • Experience working alone in a self-initiated contract delivery model.
  • Valid BC Driver's License - Class 5
  • Completion of a Criminal Record Check (mandatory before hire)
