The Tribal Administrator for Hesquiaht First Nation (HFN) is responsible to provide the effective administration of all the Nations programs, policies and day-to-day management of operations within the HFN. The Tribal Administrator plays a key role in the advancement of the overall direction of the HFN and functions as the primary conduit between Council and staff.  The successful candidate will be required to relocate to Hot Springs Cove.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct supervision of the HFN staff; ensuring organizational adherence to HFN policy;
  • Management of capitol projects within the HFN; providing advice, guidance, and support to project managers and engineers;
  • Developing and monitoring annual budgets; and,
  • Work with various levels of government including Tribal Council, Municipal, Provincial and Federal – their departments and ministries, and external agencies to further the Nation’s interests.
Qualifications 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Public Administration, or other related discipline and 4 years experience in a senior level, working with First Nations organizations or directly with First Nations; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in negotiation and conflict resolution;
  • Solid understanding of First Nations governance, policies, and practice and the roles and responsibilities of Chief, Council, and the Tribal Administrator;
  • Working knowledge of human resource management including practice and application of legislation, regulations and laws, and familiarity with the Canada Labour Code;
  • Ability to lead and work as part of a team and to support others by fostering and encouraging a positive work environment;
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral;
  • Being of First Nations heritage or having understanding of First Nations culture, challenges, and opportunities will be considered an asset; and,
  • Possess a current driver’s license and reliable vehicle with ability to travel.

The community of Hot Springs Cove is a small, remote community accessible only by boat or float plane, located 30 nautical miles from Tofino on the West Coast of Vancouver Island.  Hiking, surfing, and fishing are just a few of the activities enjoyed on the Coast.  Hot Springs Cove is the main reserve community for the Hesquiaht First Nation.
