Summary Statement

Assist in the activities of the Ditidaht First Nation in the areas of treaty internal and external communications and promotional plans that support the Ditidaht First Nation overall goals and maintain a positive public image of Ditidaht First Nation.

Reports to: Ditidaht Treaty Communications Coordinator (DTCC)

Location:  Nanaimo from home, occasional travel to Balaats’adt and/or Port Alberni

Responsibilities / Duties

  1. In coordination with Port Alberni Treaty Communications Worker, maintain a regular Ditidaht Treaty Facebook (and other social media) presence related to Treaty and other Ditidaht activities, assist in preparing and posting information to the Ditidaht web site.
  2. Attend and assist at Treaty communications planning meetings.
  3. Assist in providing brochures, reports, newsletters and other communication materials to Ditidaht membership.
  4. Direct queries from community members related to treaty communication/ information to the appropriate prepared material where available, or, if not available, to the DTCC for reference to the appropriate member of  Treaty Team.
  5. Deliver consistent key messages regarding the Treaty and related agreements as directed by the DTCC.
  6. Assist in continuously improving DFN communications.
  7. If requested, assist with home visits to the Ditidaht Membership to educate/inform them on the AIP process and expand the contact information.

Although the position is part time, 2 days a week, some communications activities such as conferences, meetings and community activities may require individuals to have a willingness and ability to work variable hours, including weekends and evenings.

Qualifications 
  • Must be able to work as a team member.
  • Must have a valid BC Driver’s License
  • Must be a self- starter and self-motivator with good communication skills, both written and spoken.
  • Able to work independently under the supervision of the DTCC and represent the Ditidaht First Nation.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Community and treaty knowledge an asset.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Word.
  • Ability to assist in proactively identifying and serving the communications needs of the Ditidaht First Nation and Communities.
  • Existing Facebook presence an asset.
