Details 

Position Responsibilities Include:

  • Assist Uu-a-thluk Biologists with the design and implementation of stock assessment programs for marine mammals, fish and shellfish in Nuu-chah-nulth territories
  • Assist Uu-a-thluk and First Nations staff with fisheries catch monitoring
  • Data analysis and assist with report writing
  • Assist Uu-a-thluk Biologists and Nuu-chah-nulth Nations in developing and implementing fisheries habitat restoration projects
  • Assist with the supervision of Uu-a-thluk fisheries summer interns
  • Participate and assist various internal and external fisheries related meetings such as Area Harvest Roundtables and First Nations Community fisheries meetings
  • Assist and sometimes lead in development of funding proposals for specific projects for the benefit of Nuu-chah-nulth Nations
  • Present educational talks at local schools
Qualifications 

 

  • Completion of a post-secondary natural resource management program; a degree in biology or fisheries desirable
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Sound knowledge of Nuu-chah-nulth fisheries and culture
  • Able to act with tact, meet deadlines, and maintain productive working relationships
  •  Demonstrated ability to multi-task, plan activities, and handle a heavy workload
  • A car and valid driver’s licence
  • Boat operator experience/certifications
  • Provide acceptable criminal record check
