Position: LNG Community Engagement Coordinator

Location: Port Alberni Government Office

Authority Relationship: Reports directly to the Communications Coordinator

Salary Range:  $36,400 - $49,400

Position Summary:

The candidate for this position will be responsible for enhancing communications and engagement between Huu-ay-aht First Nations (HFN) and Steelhead LNG (hereafter, “the Project”) and 1) the citizenship, 2) government staff, and 3) Huu-ay-aht Development Corporation (HDC).  To design and implement innovative community engagement techniques, and make recommendations to better assist with various questions and concerns regarding the proposed LNG project for Sarita Bay.

Key Accountabilities:

  • To develop a strategy that provides all stakeholders with an improved process for communicating with the Project
  • To provide a better understanding of the proposed LNG project and how it relates to citizens, including potential project outcomes, partnership details (i.e. Opportunity Development Agreement,  Joint Venture Agreement, etc.) and process required to reach implementation (i.e. ongoing studies, their purpose and findings)
  • To support and assist the implementation of the Huu-ay-aht Communications Strategy as it pertains to the proposed LNG project
  • Maintain confidentiality and neutrality at all times

Job Duties:

  • Develop and maintain a database of members and distribute material and information regarding any updates from the Project
  • Design, implement, and evaluate an LNG Community Engagement Plan,  to ensure city and departmental outreach activities about the proposed LNG project are managed strategically
  • Participate in relevant Project meetings
  • Conduct research through community consultation, surveys and key informant interviews to assist in decision-making
  • Liaise with appropriate Steelhead LNG staff to realize effective and coordinated community engagement efforts
  • Coordinate team of Community Liaisons to gather feedback and inform citizens about upcoming Community Engagement events and opportunities
  • Develop standard communications products including media releases, newsletters, fact sheets, Q&A’s, key messages and other internal and external communication products
  • When appropriate, build relations with businesses, First Nations, and various levels of government
  • Track and respond (or coordinate responses) to community concerns or questions
  • Website and social media updates regarding the proposed LNG project
  • Follow the HFN organizational vision, mission, and values
Qualifications 

Qualifications for position:

  • Demonstrated ability and experience in upholding the HFN Organizational Values: Professionalism, Respect, Health, Effective Communication, Trust, Support
  • Diploma or Degree in related Communications/Community Engagement field
  • Must have facilitation, consultation and public engagement skills
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare a variety of standard communication products including, media releases, newsletters, fact sheets, Q&A’s, key messages and other internal and external communication products
  • Required awareness of First Nation’s culture and protocol
  • Must have excellent ability to communicate both oral and written
  • Excellent Computer skills—Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Valid B.C. Driver’s License
